Rabat – The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) confirmed yesterday that Agadir is hosting the Main Planning Meeting for the US-Morocco joint “African Lion 25” exercise, running from November 18 to 22.
The meeting will be held at the southern zone headquarters and will involve national and international military planners.
This planning session is set to focus on coordinating and preparing various activities scheduled for the 21st edition of African Lion, a large-scale multinational military exercise.
Participants are finalizing plans for operational training, staff officer planning exercises, and combined arms and joint-force maneuvers. The program also includes civil-military initiatives and drills to counter nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical (NRBC) threats.
Set to take place from May 12 to 23, African Lion 2025 will span multiple locations, including Agadir, Tan-Tan, Kenitra, Benguerir, and Tiznit, uniting troops and resources from several nations. The exercise’s main goal is to boost multinational cooperation by bolstering the capacity of forces to work together effectively in joint operations.
With a focus on interoperability and collaboration, African Lion seeks to promote regional peace, security, and stability.
As one of the continent’s largest military exercises, it is a core hub for joint training and exchange, bringing to the forefront the importance of collective efforts to address global security challenges.
In last year’s edition of the drill, the United States played a major role in creating the training agenda.
The 20th iteration brought together around 7,000 military personnel from nearly 20 countries, along with representatives from NATO.
