Casablanca – Morocco’s captain Achraf Hakimi shared a message of gratitude to King Mohammed VI following the national team’s Round of 16 triumph against Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Posting on Instagram after the victory, Hakimi thanked the Moroccan monarch for his “constant support and vision for Moroccan football,” while promising that the team would continue fighting to make the country proud.
“We will keep giving everything to make our country proud, and inchallah make You proud,” Hakimi wrote alongside a photograph of King Mohammed VI.
The message quickly circulated among Moroccan fans online as celebrations continued following the Atlas Lions’ qualification to the World Cup quarterfinals.
King Mohammed VI congratulated Morocco’s national football team on Saturday evening after the Atlas Lions secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory over Canada.
The King personally called national team head coach Mohammed Ouahbi and captain Achraf Hakimi shortly after the final whistle, praising the players’ outstanding performance, fighting spirit, and discipline throughout the match.
Morocco defeated Canada to continue another historic World Cup campaign, building on the momentum of the team’s groundbreaking semifinal run at Qatar 2022.
The Atlas Lions have once again emerged as one of the standout teams of the tournament under head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, who took charge earlier this year following Walid Regragui’s departure.
Hakimi has remained one of Morocco’s key figures throughout the competition, both on and off the pitch, as the team continues its pursuit of another deep World Cup run.
Morocco will now prepare for a quarterfinal showdown as hopes continue to rise across the country and among supporters worldwide.
