Rabat – President of the National Assembly of Benin, Kbahounou Louis Flavonou, renewed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity during a meeting held in Rabat today.

Accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, Flavonou met with Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the Moroccan House of Representatives, to reinforce bilateral cooperation.

According to a statement from the Moroccan House of Representatives, Flavonou praised Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara, describing it as a constructive solution for resolving the regional dispute. He also commended Morocco’s socio-economic progress and extensive development under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.

The visit, he stated, is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen parliamentary collaboration between Benin and Morocco. Flavonou spoke of the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering friendship and cooperation and pointed to the importance of parliamentary friendship groups and reciprocal visits in promoting dialogue and coordinated action on both bilateral and multilateral fronts.

Meanwhile, Talbi Alami said that the visit would further enhance ties between the two countries, particularly at the parliamentary level, in line with a memorandum of understanding signed between the two legislatures in 2018. He affirmed the Moroccan parliament’s readiness to share experiences and expertise in legislative practices and digital transformation with Benin’s National Assembly.

During the meeting, Talbi Alami expressed gratitude for Benin’s recent stance before the United Nations’ Fourth Committee in October, where the country reiterated its support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal to resolve the Sahara dispute.

In addition, Talbi Alami briefed Flavonou on the “Atlantic Initiative” launched by King Mohammed VI, which aims to facilitate access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Moroccan speaker of the House also updated his Beninese counterpart on Morocco’s advancements in renewable energy, desalination, and foreign investment, all underscoring the kingdom’s commitment to sustainable growth and regional stability.
