Rabat – Morocco has secured another term as a member of the United Nations’ International Civil Service Commission (ICSC), following re-election on Friday in New York.
Ambassador El Hassane Zahid will continue representing Morocco on the commission for a new four-year mandate starting January 1, 2025. The announcement was made by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This re-election highlights Morocco’s influence in upholding high standards within the UN’s human resources management system, said the statement. It noted that Ambassador Zahid, a longstanding ICSC member and expert at the Policy Center for the New South, brings significant experience to the commission.
He previously served as Morocco’s Ambassador to Thailand, as well as held concurrent postings in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam from 2003 to 2010.
The statement added that Morocco’s involvement in international governance, guided by King Mohammed VI’s leadership, aligns with the country’s broader goals of promoting sustainable development, peace, and security.
The ministry highlighted Morocco’s contributions to the ICSC, saying it reflects its role as a stable and cooperative partner in the UN that helps advance policies that support the organization’s mission of high-quality governance and human resource standards.
The ICSC is an independent body established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1974 to regulate and oversee the conditions of service for the staff of the United Nations and other related organizations. Its primary role is to ensure that the compensation, benefits, and working conditions of UN staff are fair and consistent.
