Walid Regragui has received a worrying report on the stadium for their next match against Gabon on November 15 at the Franceville Stadium in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
According to Assabah, the report describes the pitch as poor and damaged. This will prove challenging for Achraf Hakimi’s teammates and should force Regragui to tweak his gameplan to suit the field conditions in order to avoid injuries and clinch a victory away with minimum damage.
The Gabon tie will be the first for Moroccans in the qualifiers. Morocco hosted away games in Agadir and Oujda after the Central African Republic and Lesotho’s stadiums failed to meet the standards set by the African Confederation of Football (CAF) Infrastructure Committee.
Meanwhile, the Central African Republic Football Federation decided to play their Group B match against Gabon in Morocco for the final round, a decision approved by CAF.
The venue is yet to be determined, but the Meknes Municipal Stadium should be ideal, after the CAF infrastructure committee recently visited it to assess if it suits continental games. CAF is expected to make a final decision on the venue within the next two days.
