Morocco’s Ministry of Justice has launched a transformative initiative to modernize the country’s judicial administration and advance decentralization by establishing new regional directorates of justice.
Strategically located across the jurisdictions of each Court of Appeal, these directorates are designed to enhance citizen access to judicial services, streamline efficiency, and improve service quality by granting greater administrative and financial autonomy at the regional level, the ministry said in a statement shared with Morocco World News.
The statement added that this move represents a key milestone in the ministry’s strategy to adapt sectoral policies to the unique needs of each jurisdiction. As part of the announced reforms, the regional directorates will manage the administrative and financial operations of the courts, coordinate with regional partners, and develop tailored budgetary programs.

Equipped with a performance indicator system in line with international standards, the ministry said, these directorates are poised to strengthen governance and advance justice objectives.
A key component of the regional directorates’ new prerogatives will be to oversee and optimize the digital infrastructure of the courts, ensuring efficient system management and adequate provision of human and logistical resources. Their mandate also includes “enhanced judicial archive management,” the ministry detailed, noting that this will entail facilitating smoother judicial processes and more accessible services for citizens.
According to the ministry, this decentralized model fosters stronger collaboration with local authorities and regional partners, enabling partnerships that support social justice and improve institutional communication. In particular, the approach aligns with what the ministry has described as its vision of “a fair, accessible, and inclusive justice system nationwide.”
As Morocco pursues its commitment to improving the performance of its administration to meet the ever-changing demands of its citizens, the country’s Ministry of Justice hopes that the creation of these regional directorates will mark a decisive step forward in modernizing and decentralizing the justice sector to make it more inclusive and responsive.
