All eyes are on tonight’s WAFCON draw. Fans wonder who will get in the group of death? And  who will have a smoother path for the final?

Rabat – The countdown is on for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Tonight, the draw will set the stage for Africa’s biggest women’s football tournament. Here’s what you need to know.

The draw kicks off at 8 p.m. Moroccan time at the Mohammed VI Sport Center in Salé, Morocco. Fans can watch live on CAF TV on YouTube.

Confederation of African Football (CAF)  President Dr. Patrice Motsepe will attend the ceremony, as announced on the official website. But he’s not just in Morocco for the draw. He’ll also attend the CAF Women’s Champions League Final in El Jadida tomorrow at 6 p.m. local time.

Twelve teams have qualified for WAFCON 2025. Here’s the lineup:

Host: Morocco

Defending Champs: South Africa

Others: Algeria, Botswana, DR Congo, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zambia.

These teams will be split into three groups of four with Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria in the first pot. The draw process ensures balanced matchups.

Teams are divided into four levels, based on FIFA rankings:

Level 1: Morocco, South Africa, Nigeria

Level 2: Zambia, Ghana, Tunisia

Level 3: Mali, Senegal, Algeria

Level 4: DR Congo, Tanzania, Botswana

The format for the draw will be as follows: Teams from Level 4 are drawn first, filling the fourth spots in Groups A, B, and C. Next, Level 3 teams will be drawn, filling the third spot. Finally, Level 2 teams take the second spot.

Morocco (A1), South Africa (C1), and Nigeria (B1) are already locked in as group leaders.

The competition kicks off on July 5, 2025 and wraps up on July 26, 2025. Matches will celebrate the best of African women’s football as South Africa aims to defend their title, won in Morocco two years ago.

However, there’s more at stake than just glory. Prize money has been boosted:

Winners: $600,000

Runners-up: $400,000

Third Place: $350,000

Even teams finishing at the bottom will take home cash too.

Stay tuned to CAF TV for the draw results. The road to July starts tonight.
