Rabat – The extreme cold snap Gaza is experiencing is adding to the suffering of displaced Palestinians, who are now grappling with both Israel’s relentless aggression and the harsh winter.

Gaza’s government media office reported today that the death toll of displaced people in tent camps losing their lives from hypothermia has reached seven.

“We have warned more than once of the danger […] air depressions, winter and frost waves coinciding with the tragic reality experienced by our Palestinian people who are being subjected to killing[s], genocide and [the] destruction of homes and vital sectors, and [who] are being subjected to displacement and eviction,” the statement read, according to Al Jazeera.

The media office added that heavy rainfall and frost waves are expected to continue in the coming days, warning that it poses a “great danger” and “real threat” to the lives of these displaced populations.

The statement added that “dilapidated tents” are far from enough to protect people from the cold.

The government office held Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), alongside the US and other Western countries, fully responsible for the worsening humanitarian situation in the besieged strip.

One of the latest victims is a one-month old boy named Ali al-Batran, who died this morning in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital due to the cold. He is the twin of the baby Jumaa al-Batran, who passed away yesterday in a tent in Deir el-Balah, also due to the cold.

Meanwhile, Israel’s genocide continues across Gaza, with the death toll reaching 45,541 since October 7 of last year. Israeli attacks have also injured 108,338 people.

In the last 24 hours alone, Israeli forces killed 27 Palestinians and wounded 149 others.

Last week, the IOF raided the Kamal Adwan Hospital and detained dozens of medical staff, including the facility’s director. Israel, for the millionth time, justified its raid by claiming that the hospital serves as a Hamas stronghold.

WHO Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus demanded the “immediate release” of the hospital’s director as he expressed concern over the Israeli raid that put the facility out of service and displaced hundreds of patients.
