Rabat – The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology has issued a weather alert warning of strong winds in several parts of northern Morocco on Monday.
According to the orange-level alert, wind speeds are expected to reach between 70 and 85 kilometers per hour.
The strong gusts will affect several areas, including Tangier-Asilah, Fahs-Anjra, Tetouan, and M’diq-Fnideq. The warning is in place from midnight on Monday until 10:00 p.m. the same day.
Over the past week, several regions have experienced a noticeable drop in temperatures. Since Wednesday, weather conditions have changed due to the approach of a low-pressure system from the north. This system brought cold air masses to the upper layers of the atmosphere, which led to more humid conditions.
Some northern plains, including Rabat and areas in the northwest, saw light rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures also dropped significantly during the day.
Nighttime temperatures ranged from 0°C to 6°C in the Atlas Mountains, Rif, and eastern highlands. The southern regions and Souss were slightly warmer, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 16°C, while other parts of the country recorded temperatures between 6°C and 13°C.
While the recent rain provided some relief, it was not enough to address Morocco’s ongoing drought. After several years of insufficient rainfall, many Moroccans are hoping for heavier and more consistent rains to help alleviate water shortages and support the struggling agricultural sector.
The lack of significant rain is a huge concern, particularly as the country relies heavily on agriculture, which has been severely impacted by the prolonged dry conditions.
