Rabat – After years at the helm of key government positions in Senegal, Doudou Ka has turned his attention to a new and dynamic phase in his career.

Following his tenure as Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation under President Macky Sall, Ka has pivoted away from politics to focus fully on international business, aiming to bring about tangible economic transformation in Africa.

In August 2024, Ka announced his decision to leave government for the private sector, explaining: “After having held multiple public positions, including Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, I have chosen to focus entirely on my international professional activities and my work as an investment banker.”

The move, he argued, is rooted in a bone-deep belief that he can make a more direct impact on the projects that matter to him through the entrepreneurial path.

Leveraging Networks for Africa’s Growth

Since stepping down from his official duties, Doudou Ka has immersed himself in fostering international connections and attending major forums to engage with business leaders and government officials.

In May 2024, he participated in the Francophone Entrepreneurs’ Meeting (REF) in Marrakech, Morocco, where he further strengthened his professional network.

This was followed by key meetings in Paris with leaders from the French business community, including the Movement of French Enterprises (MEDEF), a prominent employer federation in France, which provided new opportunities to collaborate on projects spanning both Europe and Africa.

This focus on networking reflects Ka’s broader vision: to create a sustainable and interconnected economic environment that can drive real development across the African continent. His strategy is about cultivating relationships as well as about learning firsthand from different African nations.

In his travels, he conducts in-depth assessments of the specific challenges facing regions, particularly around infrastructure and housing. By engaging with local leaders, he and his team can craft solutions grounded in the needs of the communities they aim to serve.

A Commitment to tangible outcomes

An engineer by training, Ka has long been an advocate for turning ambitious ideas into concrete outcomes.

His work in the public sector demonstrated a keen understanding that success lies not just in planning, but in execution. This belief led him to establish Interface, a consulting firm dedicated to helping governments and businesses implement large-scale projects across Africa.

Through his firm, Ka advocates for the strength of public-private partnerships, mobilizing resources and expertise to ensure projects are not only conceptualized but completed effectively.

Ka’s leadership in transforming Senegal’s air transport infrastructure—most notably his work at Blaise Diagne International Airport—was a testament to his ability to execute complex projects.

He continues to focus on those principles as he shifts his efforts towards wider economic development in Africa. His focus is on the implementation of projects that will not only bring economic benefits but will also create sustainable, long-lasting changes for the continent.

The Entrepreneurial Shift: A Strategic Decision

Despite speculations surrounding a potential return to politics, Ka has been unequivocal in his intentions. “I am not seeking any political position or alliance,” he stated.

His transition to entrepreneurship is not about stepping away from public service but about finding a new and more effective way to contribute to Africa’s development. Through this new path, Ka believes he can make a direct and lasting impact on the continent’s growth.

This shift aligns with Ka’s broader perspective on Africa’s economic future. He argues that the continent must rely less on external aid and more on its own resources and private sector capabilities.

The past 60 years of development assistance, while valuable, have shown their limitations. Now, Ka insists, Africa’s path forward lies in empowering local businesses and leaders to address their challenges and seize opportunities.

His focus is on initiating projects that generate employment, bolster infrastructure, and provide lasting solutions to Africa’s most pressing issues.

A vision for Africa’s economic transformation

Ka’s entrepreneurial journey is not just a career shift—it’s a commitment to shaping Africa’s economic future. With years of experience navigating both the public and private sectors, Ka is uniquely positioned to bridge gaps between governments, businesses, and local communities.

At the heart of Ka’s new mission is his undivided focus on practical, large-scale projects that generate wealth, create jobs, and foster infrastructure.

As 2025 approaches, Ka’s growing portfolio of international ventures offers a glimpse into the future of Africa’s economic landscape—one where local solutions, driven by African leaders and entrepreneurs, become the foundation for a self-sustaining and globally competitive continent.

By transforming his vision into actionable projects, Doudou Ka is determined to contribute to the rise of a resilient, independent Africa that stands as a force on the global stage.
