Doha – BCP International (BCPI), a subsidiary of the pan-African Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) Group, has entered into a strategic partnership with Visa International to transform the payment ecosystem across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The partnership, announced today, marks a significant milestone in BCP Group’s expansion strategy across its 16 banking subsidiaries operating in 14 Sub-Saharan African countries.

The collaboration aims to enhance the service offerings of BCP Group’s subsidiaries, including the Banque Atlantique network, BIA Niger, BICEC in Cameroon, BCI in Congo, BMOI in Madagascar, and BCP Bank Mauritius.

The partnership will focus on expanding the range of payment cards and implementing innovative services such as e-commerce solutions and digital payments specifically tailored to local population needs.

Abdeslam Bennani, Director General of BCPI, emphasized the partnership’s strategic importance, stating: “This partnership marks a decisive step in our growth and innovation strategy. It illustrates our commitment to promoting access to financial services in Africa while offering innovative solutions perfectly adapted to the specific needs of our clients.”

A key component of the partnership involves Visa providing advanced fraud prevention technology to ensure secure and reliable payment solutions.

Aida Diarra, Senior Vice President of Visa Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted the alignment of both organizations’ missions, noting, “At VISA, we deeply believe in the power of digital payments to transform the lives of people and businesses across the world.”

The partnership extends beyond improving financial services, addressing the broader challenge of financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa.

By facilitating access to banking services and fostering innovation, this initiative aims to serve as a catalyst for sustainable development across the continent, where a significant portion of the population remains excluded from traditional banking systems.

BCPI’s role in this partnership aligns with its mission to support BCP Group’s activities in Sub-Saharan Africa across various sectors, including banking, investment banking, insurance companies, and fintech.

The organization focuses on strengthening local presence, expanding product offerings, and developing synergies with other group entities to build competitive advantages for both individual and corporate clients.

Listed on the NYSE under the symbol V, Visa brings its expertise as a global leader in digital payments, facilitating transactions between consumers, merchants, financial institutions, and government entities across more than 200 countries and territories.

The company’s technological infrastructure and experience in fraud prevention will be crucial in implementing secure and efficient payment solutions across BCP’s African network.

This strategic alliance represents a significant step toward modernizing payment systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, despite challenges such as the harmonization of regulatory and legal frameworks related to payments and financial technologies in Africa.

Through this collaboration, both organizations aim to contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic growth across the continent by making digital payment solutions more accessible to local populations.
