Rabat – The Head of the Moroccan Government, Aziz Akhannouch, held a meeting today in Rabat with Yael Braun-Pivet, the President of the French National Assembly. The meeting is part of an official visit by Braun-Pivet aimed at strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and France.
During their discussions, both sides commended the strong and long-standing friendship between Morocco and France, according to a press release from the Moroccan government.
Braun-Pivet told the media following the meeting that Morocco and France are experiencing a “new golden age” in their bilateral cooperation.”
“We can see how there is a dynamic in Morocco today in which France can find its place, particularly through its companies and expertise,” she added, noting that the North African country is developing in a “harmonious” way in the fields of education, agriculture, and energy, among others.
Akhannouch and Braun-Pivet discussed the progress achieved through the “Enhanced Exceptional Partnership Declaration”, which King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron signed last October.
This agreement aims to enable both countries to address common challenges more effectively by involving all relevant sectors in bilateral, regional, and international cooperation.
In addition, Akhannouch welcomed France’s recent recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara and its support for the autonomy initiative as the sole framework for resolving this regional dispute. He also noted the significance of Moroccan-French collaboration in Africa, saying it reflects King Mohammed VI’s vision for the continent’s development.
Both officials discussed the importance of consultation and coordination on parliamentary issues of mutual interest, particularly by enhancing the role of the Moroccan-French Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Several high-ranking officials attended the meeting, including Naima Moutchou, Vice-President of the French National Assembly, Bruno Fuchs, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Damien Chamoussy, Secretary-General of the French National Assembly; and Christophe Lecourtier, French Ambassador to Morocco.
The official visit is running between December 11 and 13, with the President of the French National Assembly meeting with the presidents of the Moroccan parliament’s two chambers, namely Rachid Talbi Alami of the House of Representatives and Ould Errachid of the House of Councillors.
Braun-Pivet is also set to hold talks with stakeholders from different sectors, including civil society and economic operators.
