Moroccan House of Representatives President Rachid Talbi Alami and French National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet signed in Rabat on Wednesday a parliamentary cooperation protocol.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties pledged to deepen their countries’ privileged relations based on the principles of equality, trust, and reciprocity.

The protocol outlines several initiatives, including exchanges of experience, study missions, and joint events on bilateral and international issues of mutual interests.

In addition, they agreed to strengthen relations between their respective assemblies and to resume meetings of the Franco-Moroccan Inter Parliamentary Forum.

The two countries will also hold technical exchanges between administrations, focusing on sharing expertise areas like legal matters, legislation, diplomacy and more.

Braun-Pivet arrived in Rabat on Wednesday for a three-day visit as part of a diplomatic mission seeking to boost parliamentary cooperation between Paris and Rabat.

As part of her visit, the top French MP will hold talks with several high-ranking Moroccan officials, including a meeting today with Head of Government Aziz Akhannouchy.

The visit comes nearly two months after Emmanuel Macron’s historic state visit to Rabat in October, where he stressed Paris’s commitment to boosting ties with Morocco and reaffirmed his country’s game-changing embrace of the Moroccan autonomy Plan for the Western Sahara region.

During a milestone speech at the Moroccan parliament, Macron described France’s relationship with Morocco as a “unique bond of friendship” and emphasized is country’s readiness to open a “new chapter” of genuine strategic collaboration with the North African kingdom.

“I see the opportunity and necessity to write a new book to face and meet the challenges of the century,” Macron told the parliament, saying he envisioned a partnership that would bring together France, Morocco, the European Union, as well as the wider Maghreb region.
