Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has launched a new direct flight route connecting Casablanca to Toronto, Canada.
The first flight took off from Mohammed V International airport in Casablanca on Sunday, carrying 204 passengers, the airline said in a press release.
The first return flight from Toronto carried nearly 275 passengers, making a total of around 480 travelers on the two inaugural flights.
Initially announced on August 2, the new route will operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Flights will depart from Casablanca at 4:45 pm local time and arrive in toronto at 7:25 pm local time. Return flights will leave Toronto at 9:30 pm local time and land in Casablanca at 10:50 am local time the following day.
RAM said that the new route meets a long-standing need for Moroccan residents in Canada and adds to the airline’s existing Casablanca-Montreal route, which has been operational since 1975.
It added that it strengthens the airline’s network in the Americas, which already includes direct flights to New York, Washington, Miami, and Sao Paulo, the latter of which returned to service on December 7.
The new Casablanca-Toronto route is part of the airline’s development plan agreed upon with the Moroccan government in July 2023. It aims to boost tourism to Morocco and enhance economic cooperation between the two countries, added RAM in its statement.
Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada recently said that the route “will foster new opportunities for business people, academics, artists and citizens on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Speaking during a ceremony organized by RAM in Toronto in October, Otmani added that “it is an important moment in relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada.”
