Casablanca – The TechWomen Global Alumnae Summit launched on Wednesday in Casablanca, marking a historic moment for women’s leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Running from December 4 to 6, this first-of-its-kind summit convenes 154 alumni from 21 countries alongside 45 U.S. mentors in a shared mission to drive innovation and foster gender equality.

Organized by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the summit showcases how mentorship and cross-cultural collaboration are shaping a new generation of changemakers.

In an interview with Morocco World News, U.S. Ambassador Puneet Talwar highlighted the significance of the summit.

“This is an incredible program that was launched 14 years ago, where women from all ages, both young and experienced, who are active in the technology field, get to meet one another and share their experiences,” he stated.

The ambassador further emphasized how the summit creates a unique space for women to connect, collaborate, and empower each other in the ever-evolving tech world.

A milestone for women in tech

As a direct outcome of TechWomen’s enduring mission to elevate women in STEM, the summit reflects a decade of dedication to mentorship and innovation.

Announced by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the program’s 10th-anniversary celebration in 2022, the event serves as a dynamic platform for changemakers to connect, inspire, and collaborate.

Through engaging workshops and the high-stakes TechWomen Pitch Competition, participants are tackling vital issues such as women’s leadership in STEM and the AI revolution, sustainable practices and climate resilience, and closing the gender gap to empower the next generation.

Each session fuels a broader conversation about the intersection of technology and global challenges, underscoring the transformative power of inclusive leadership.

Pitching for change

The summit represents a pivotal moment in the journey toward inclusive leadership in technology. It features interactive workshops, high-impact discussions, and the TechWomen Pitch Competition, where alumni present innovative business ideas and community projects addressing global challenges.

Key themes explored at the summit include: Women Leaders in STEM & the AI Revolution, Sustainable Practices and Climate Resilience, and Empowering the Next Generation: Bridging the Gender Gap in STEM

A Vision of leadership and inclusion

The event also celebrates TechWomen’s legacy of connecting women from diverse backgrounds with leading U.S. tech innovators. Alumni have gained hands-on experience in world-class tech hubs, forming lasting professional relationships that enable them to champion gender equality and technological advancement in their communities.

Karima Bahmane, a Moroccan electrical engineer and PhD student in artificial intelligence, told Morocco World News: “I was selected for TechWomen in 2023, and it was a huge opportunity for me to connect with professionals in San Francisco and major companies like Google, Meta, and Tesla. I had the chance to work on significant projects, develop my soft skills, and even launch my own project in Morocco.”

The future is ‘TechWomen’

As the days unfold, the TechWomen Global Alumnae Summit’s impact of the event will continue to ripple across industries and communities.

With over a decade of success behind them, the program’s influence is clear, but the next chapter is already being written by the next generation of women leaders.

The message is simple: when women lead, industries transform, and the future gets redefined.
