Rabat – Morocco has been awarded the privilege of hosting the next two U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, set for 2025 and 2026.
The first event will take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sports calendar.
The announcement came on December 16 during the Executive Committee meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), held in Marrakech on the sidelines of the CAF Awards.
This marks the second time in recent years that Morocco has been entrusted with hosting a major continental football tournament, underscoring the country’s growing influence in African football.
The decision is also a testament to Morocco’s proven track record in organizing successful sports events, including the U20 African Nations Championship held in 2021.
Additionally, the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, which is also set to welcome the rescheduled 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for senior teams.
The U20 tournament is scheduled to begin on April 26, 2025, and conclude with the final on May 18 of the same year.
Both the U17 and U20 Morocco teams have already secured their places in these prestigious competitions.
The U20 team earned their spot by winning the UNAF U20 Tournament in Egypt, while the U17 team qualified as runners-up in the UNAF U17 Tournament held in Morocco in November 2023.
Morocco, along with Spain and Portugal, will also host the prestigious 2030 FIFA World Cup, reinforcing the country’s status as a leading African football hub of excellence.
