Rabat – Morocco is set to host the Women Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) from April 22-30, 2025.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the historic landmark in African women’s sports history during its Executive Committee meeting in Rabat, chaired by President Patrice Motsepe, on Monday.
The pan-African organization said that “the opening match will be on Tuesday, 22 April 2025 and final match will be played on Wednesday, 30 April 2025.”
The competition represents a significant step forward for women futsal in Africa. The two finalists will earn qualification tickets for the Women Futsal FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines in late 2025.
The inaugural Women Futsal AFCON, in particular, represents a new chapter in African women’s sports, potentially opening doors for further growth in the indoor football discipline.
In addition to the anticipated announcement, the CAF revealed several other major changes for African football.
The CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, has been rescheduled to run from August 2-30, 2025. The tournament was originally meant to take place next month, but the host countries informed CAF that they still need more to prepare, in order to ensure the tournament is at its highest standards.
Another significant change announced during the meeting concerns the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted by Morocco in 2025 and 2026. The tournament will expand the number of teams from 12 to 16, a move CAF describes as “a significant step forward for inclusion and youth talent development across the continent.”

As for future competitions, CAF has opened bidding processes for several major tournaments, including the Women CAF Champions League (2025-2027), the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (2026-2028), and the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (2027-2031).
These developments reflect CAF’s broader strategy to strengthen both women’s and youth football across Africa, with Morocco playing an increasingly prominent role in hosting major continental competitions.
As Morocco is getting ready to host two major football tournaments, including AFCON 2025 and the 2030 World Cup, CAF has given the North African country its stamp of approval, believing in its capacity to organize international and continental events.
Morocco has a strong history of hosting some of the continent’s major competitions, including the 2018 African Nations Championship, the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
