The committee was established under Law 08-09, issued on February 18, 2009. Its main goal is to ensure that personal data is handled legally and without violating privacy, basic human rights, or freedoms, according to CNDP’s website.
Key responsibilities of the committee include making sure that personal data processing complies with the law and protecting individuals’ privacy and fundamental rights.
The CNDP is chaired by a president appointed by the King, supported by six members, two each proposed by the head of the government, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Speaker of the House of Councillors.
Each member serves for a five year term, which can be renewed once.
