Rabat – German manufacturing company Leoni has opened a new factory in Agadir with an investment of MAD 230 million. The company specializes in automotive wiring systems.
The opening took place on Tuesday and was presided over by the head of the Moroccan government Aziz Akhannouch. The new production unit is located in the heart of the Souss-Massa industrial acceleration zone.
The facility covers an area of 7.6 hectares, with more than 19,000 square meters dedicated to production. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy by creating over 3,000 direct job opportunities by 2027, as reported by SNRTNews
Once the new facility becomes operational, the total number of jobs at Leoni in Morocco is set to reach 19,000.
Speaking during the inauguration, Akhannouch noted the importance of this investment in strengthening Morocco’s position in the global automotive sector. He added that the confidence shown by the German company reflects the dynamic growth in Morocco’s automotive sector under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
This growth makes Morocco an attractive destination for leading global companies in the automotive industry, Akhannouch added.
The head of the government added that this project will contribute to Agadir’s position as a new industrial hub, aligning well with the city’s modern infrastructure, logistics capabilities, and vocational training systems that are designed for businesses’ needs.
Leoni’s CEO Ingo Spengler also spoke about the strategic importance of the factory, saying it demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to Morocco.
The decision to expand in Agadir reflects the company’s confidence in Morocco’s potential and the growing dynamism of the African continent, he remarked.
Spengler added that the new facility will strengthen Leoni’s competitiveness in the commercial automotive sector.
