Rabat – As tensions mount in the Middle East, Iran has recently revealed a significant new military installation.
Iran’s state television broadcasted a commission led by Revolutionary Guards chief General Hossein Salami inspecting a new underground naval missile base at an undisclosed location in the Gulf region.
The launch comes at a moment of heightened regional tensions with Iran expanding its military capabilities in the Middle East.
During the visit, Salami announced that this installation is part of a broader network of underground bases designed to house vessels capable of launching long-range missiles and conducting extended maritime operations.
“We assure the great nation of Iran that their young people are capable of coming out honorable and victorious from a battle on the seas against enemies big and small,” Salami declared during the televised inspection.
The facility is reportedly constructed 500 meters belowground somewhere along the Gulf coast. It features an extensive network of tunnels housing what Iranian state media identified as new Taregh-class radar-evading speed boats, equipped with cruise missile capabilities.
The exact location remains classified, as Tehran strives to protect key military assets.
Iranian media reported last week that the country has recently boosted its nationwide military maneuvers with a new spy ship aimed to protect its nuclear facilities.
Within these maneuvers, Iran has been conducting a series of extensive military exercises, scheduled to continue for two months. The maneuvers include simulated missile and drone attacks on nuclear installations at Natanz.
The launch of this naval facility is part of Iran’s pattern of developing underground military installations, which it refers to as “missile cities.”
According to defense analysts and observers, the timing and scale of Tehran’s moves could influence regional security dynamics and international diplomatic relations in the coming months.
President-elect Donald Trump has previously vowed to exert maximum pressure on the Middle Eastern country to deter it from developing its nuclear program.
In addition to the US, Iran is advancing its military facilities —particularly boosting its nuclear program — which raises concerns among other Western countries. The situation prompted several countries to hold a “consultation” meeting with Iranian officials last week in Geneva.
