Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has expressed confidence ahead of the Atlas Lions’ 2026 FIFA World Cup group C opener against Brazil, stressing that the team is determined to start the tournament on a positive note.
Speaking before Saturday’s Group C clash, Bounou described the encounter as a major test but insisted Morocco is fully prepared for the challenge.
“It is a big match. The team is well prepared and the players are determined to deliver a great performance,” Bounou said, according to Elbotola.
Al Hilal’s goal keeper acknowledged the quality of the Brazilian squad but emphasized that Morocco also possesses top-level talent capable of competing on the biggest stage.
“We are facing a great team with great players, but the Moroccan national team is also a strong team. We have high-quality players who are capable of playing matches like this,” he added.
Weather conditions
Bounou also dismissed concerns over weather conditions, noting that African teams are accustomed to playing in similar environments.
“I think African teams should be used to these weather conditions because we play in them across Africa. The weather affects everyone, not just us,” he explained.
The 35-year-old revealed that Morocco arrived in the United States early in order to adapt to the conditions before the start of the tournament.
“We have been here for a week and have started adapting to the surrounding conditions,” he said.
Bounou concluded by highlighting the importance of game management against a team of Brazil’s caliber.
“We must be smart in managing the match,” he stated, underlining the need for concentration and tactical discipline throughout the 90 minutes.
Morocco takes on Brazil on Saturday night in one of the standout fixtures of the opening round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
