Rabat – For years, Morocco’s inter-city bus stations have been a mess with long queues, confusion, and outdated systems that travelers have to deal with. But now, change is around the corner.
Speaking to the assembly at the Moroccan Parliament, Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit has announced a big plan to bring these key transport hubs up-to-date for a seamless, safer, and more efficient experience for passengers.
Digital tickets, better management systems, and a high-tech tracking system are all part of the plan to revamp and bring order to this sector.
Bus stations work under municipal control and will finally get legal, financial, and technical support to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Old-school ticket booths won’t cut it in today’s digital world. That’s why the government is rolling out a single mobile ticketing app that would integrate all bus stations in the country with an online booking system and automated service points. Travelers will soon be able to pre-book tickets, track schedules, and manage their luggage with ease.
And it’s not just about convenience. The new digital system will also help authorities keep a close eye on bus station operations, from tracking passenger numbers to monitoring finances.

Bus stations all over the country can be chaotic during peak times, especially with Ramadan festivities edging closer. To fix this, the new plan includes designated entry and exit lanes for buses and passengers, as seen in Rabat. Automated gates will also be installed to control access and tighten security.
The plan won’t come cheap though. So, the interior ministry is stepping in with a financial package for municipalities. The funds will go towards renovating stations, buying new equipment, and training staff. The government says they want to make sure this upgrade won’t just be a quick fix, but overall improvement in Moroccan transportation for the long haul.
