Rabat – Yassine Bounou won the best goalkeeper in the Roshn Saudi League for January, adding yet another trophy to his ever-growing individual awards collection.
Since his high-profile move from Sevilla to Al-Hilal in August 2023, the 32-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation. With eight clean sheets in 24 matches across all competitions this season, Bounou has been on rock-solid form at the back for the Saudi giants.
His fans have even dubbed him the “Wall of Riyadh”.
This is just the latest in a series of triumphs for the Atlas Lion. Bounou has already been named “Best Goalkeeper of the Month” three times – in October 2023, November 2023, and February 2024.
He was also crowned Best Goalkeeper of the 2023-2024 season after a top-tier campaign that saw him keep 15 clean sheets and concede just 20 goals in 31 appearances.
Bounou’s heroics have been instrumental in Al-Hilal’s dominance last season. The club clinched the Saudi Pro League title, and the Moroccan shot-stopper played a pivotal role in their success.
But the silverware didn’t stop there – Bounou also helped his team lift the King’s Cup and the Saudi Super Cup.
His incredible form hasn’t gone unnoticed on the international stage either. In December 2023, Bounou was named Africa’s Best Goalkeeper at the CAF Annual Awards.
After making his name in Europe with Sevilla, where he won the Europa League, the Moroccan star has taken the Saudi Pro League by storm. He combines his towering presence with lightning-fast reflexes and an uncanny ability to read the game.
