Rabat – Osame Sahraoui was named Man of the Match for his clinical brace as Lille hammered Saint-Etienne 4-1 on Saturday.
The Moroccan international, one of the star performers this season, gave an interview to the British media DAZN in the aftermath of the game to reflect on his recent form, how his relationship is going with coach Bruno Genesio, and the team spirit.
“It’s been an unforgettable week, filled with emotions,” Sahraoui said. “We made history with important wins over Feyenoord and Saint-Etienne.”
“These are the kinds of victories that motivate us to keep pushing. Two crucial matches are still ahead, and we will give everything we have to finish strong.”
Sahraoui hastened to talk about the collective efforts behind his own individual triumphs.
“Every goal I score is a result of teamwork. The moves we make as a group are well thought out, and I just happen to be in the right place at the right time to finish the job. I had the chance for a third goal today, but it didn’t happen,” he noted.
The 23-year-old forward also commended his coach, Genesio, for playing a key role in his development.
“Bruno is more than just a fantastic coach — he’s an incredible person. He’s always there to give me advice and motivation, and he instills this drive to win in all of us. The supporters showed their appreciation for him today, and it’s well deserved.”
Sahraoui sealed the deal in Lille’s win against Saint-Etienne with his goals in the 63rd and 78th minutes.
After this performance, as well as his outstanding display against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League, the Moroccan talent has ensured himself a second straight “Man of the Match” title this season.
Still a few games left to go into the season for Ligue 1, and Lille, with Sahraoui at the lead, will try their best to secure a top-four spot for next year’s Champions League qualification.
