Casablanca – Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta began his Egyptian Premier League campaign with a dramatic victory on Sunday, leading Al Ahly to a 3-2 comeback win over Eastern Company ENPPI at Cairo International Stadium.
Al Ahly endured a difficult opening half after Eastern Company ENPPI struck twice within the first 25 minutes.
The visitors had also missed an opportunity to extend their lead from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute, with Mohamed Hamdy failing to convert.
Al Ahly responded before halftime when Marwan Attia pulled one back in the 34th minute, giving Ammouta’s side renewed hope heading into the break.
The Moroccan coach made three changes in the 62nd minute, bringing on Moroccan forward Soufiane Benjdida alongside Ali Mahmoud and Karim El Debis as Al Ahly intensified their search for an equalizer.
Their pressure paid off seven minutes later when Ahmed Sayed Zizo converted a penalty to level the score at 2-2.
Afsha then completed Al Ahly’s comeback in the 90th minute, securing all three points for the Egyptian giants.
Bencharki, who started the match and played until the 85th minute, was named Man of the Match after delivering an impressive performance and assisting one of Al Ahly’s goals.
The victory gives Ammouta a winning start to his tenure as Al Ahly begin their league campaign with three points.
