Rabat – Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, affirmed on Wednesday in Jeddah that King Mohammed VI remains committed to the Palestinian cause and its people.
Speaking on behalf of Morocco at the 13th meeting of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World, Bensaid talked about the vital role of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency. The agency is the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by the King, and works to preserve Jerusalem’s cultural and civilizational identity.
Bensaid detailed several projects and programs that the agency is in charge of. The agency’s mission is to support the people of Jerusalem through heritage preservation, rehabilitation of cultural infrastructure, and promotion of creative sectors. He said these initiatives reflect Morocco’s unwavering commitment under King Mohammed VI’s leadership to defend Al-Quds and support its residents.
The minister also commended regional efforts to protect cultural heritage. He recalled that 117 tangible and intangible heritage elements, including several Moroccan items, have been added to the ICESCO list.
Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid met with Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan on the sidelines of the conference.
The meeting focused on enhancing cultural cooperation and exchange between Morocco and Saudi Arabia across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on traditional crafts and arts.
The discussion built on the momentum from a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2024 between the Saudi Royal Institute of Traditional Arts and its Moroccan counterpart.
Both ministers also reviewed ongoing collaboration to orchestrate events and activities in both countries, demonstrating the strong cultural ties between the two nations.
The conference of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World is put on annually by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and serves as a strategic platform. It strengthens cooperation among OIC member states, promotes Islamic cultural identity, supports creative industries, and fosters sustainable development through culture.
