Rabat – Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al Maghrib (BAM), has issued a warning alert calling out fraudulent media content promoting a fake investment platform linked to the bank in the form of a press article.
“This media content fraudulently uses Bank Al-Maghrib’s identity as well as the image of its governor, likely relying on artificial intelligence mechanisms,” BAM wrote.
The media content “makes false promises” of financial gains associated with the alleged investment platform, it said, noting that the article’s claims are entirely false.
BAM also promised to take all necessary actions to protect its image and rights.
The bank has in recent years issued similar statements to deny such fraudulent schemes.
In 2021, BAM issued a statement denying all responsibility for a message circulating via mobile messaging, “inviting citizens to go to the bank’s agencies to withdraw a prize in the form of a check.”
A few years earlier, BAM warned all banks to take precautionary measures against electronic money fraud.
To address similar challenges, the bank signed a protocol agreement with Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) to bolster security and streamline operations.
The agreement will enable BAM to benefit from advanced digital services linked to Morocco’s electronic national identity card system.
One of the objectives is to also protect the bank’s administrative facilities and secure the transport of funds across Morocco.
