Rabat – King Mohammed VI extended his condolences to the family of iconic Moroccan artist Naima Samih, who died on Saturday.

In his message, the King said Naima Samih’s death is “a loss not only for her family but also for the national artistic scene, which has lost one of its brightest stars that shone for decades in the realm of authentic Arabic song thanks to her melodious voice, distinctive tone, and elevated artistic sense.”

For the monarch, Samih will forever remain engaged in the repertoire of Moroccan songs and in the memory of her national as well as greater Arab audience.

Extending his heartfelt condolences, the monarch said he shares the feelings of the deceased’s family in this “difficult trial,” but also added that “divine will is unstoppable.” He recalled the great merits of the legendary artist and her noble qualities as well as sincere patriotism.

The iconic singer died yesterday morning at the age of 71. Born in Casablanca, Naima Samih left a lasting legacy for the current and future generations.

Some of her renowned songs include “Jitek li Babek”, “Yak A Jarhi”, “Ghab Lehlal”, among others, that have been performed by musicians in Morocco and beyond.

Many Moroccans, celebrities or not, took to social media to mourn the artist.

Fassi composer and artist Nouamane Lahlou, who attended her funeral, posted that the singer’s death is a great loss for Moroccans and beyond.

Latifa Raafat, one of the most renowned singers in Morocco, also extended her condolences, describing Samih as the “lady of Moroccan music” that will never be forgotten.
