Morocco Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain, Snow, and Strong Winds

The DGM urges vigilance as these conditions may cause disruptions.

Morocco Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain, Snow, and Strong Winds

Rabat – Heavy rainfall, including localized storms, is expected to continue across Morocco until Saturday. 

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a warning for significant rainfall, snow, and strong winds affecting several provinces from Thursday to Saturday.

According to the DGM’s orange-level alert, heavy rainfall (50-70 mm) is anticipated between Thursday at 6 PM and Friday at 3 PM in the provinces of Larache, Ouazzane, Tanger-Assilah, Tétouan, Chefchaouen, and Al Hoceïma. During the same period, rainfall of 40-50 mm is expected in Mdiq-Fnideq, Fahs-Anjra, Taounate, Taza, Sidi Kacem, and Kénitra. 

Other regions, including Beni Mellal, Ifrane, Khenifra, Berrechid, Mediouna, Casablanca, Benslimane, Settat, Skhirate-Temara, Sale, Safi, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Rabat, Essaouira, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant, and Chtouka-Ait Baha, are expected to experience locally stormy rainfall ranging from 25-40 mm.

Snowfall of up to 50 cm is predicted above 1,800 meters from Thursday at 9 PM to Saturday at 10 AM in the provinces of Azilal, Ifrane, and Al Hoceïma.

In higher altitudes above 2,000 meters, snow accumulation of up to 30 cm is expected in Taroudant, Midelt, Tinghir, Sefrou, Chichaoua, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Taza, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Guercif, and Boulemane, from Thursday at 9 PM to Saturday at 6 AM.

Strong winds (70-85 km/h) are forecast to impact the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Tanger-Assilah, Tetouan, MDiq-Fnideq, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, Kénitra, Salé, Nouaceur, Médiouna, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Safi, and Essaouira from Thursday at 4 PM to Friday at 9 AM.

Similar conditions will affect Chefchaouen, Al Hoceïma, Jerada, Nador, Driouch, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Guercif, El Hajeb, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Meknès, Berkane, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Khénifra, Midelt, and Figuig from Thursday at 4 PM to Friday at 7 PM.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions due to the severe weather conditions. The DGM urges vigilance as these conditions may cause disruptions.
