Rabat – Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport has introduced measures to improve the travel experience by removing the double passport control process for international travelers and introducing automated gates. The move is set to make border checks faster and more efficient.
Until now, passengers had to present their passports twice; once for stamping and again at a second checkpoint, according to the National Airports Office (ONSA).
Under the new system, travelers will only go through one automated control. This would reduce waiting times and make the process smoother.
This change, part of Morocco’s Airports 2030 strategy, was made possible through the combined efforts of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the Ministry of Interior’s Immigration and Border Control Department, and ONDA.
The airport authority said that passengers at Mohammed V Airport will now experience shorter lines and quicker border clearance, adding that it would improve their overall travel experience.
The new system will gradually be rolled out to all airports in Morocco before the summer season as each facility upgrades its infrastructure, the statement added.
ONDA said it aims to combine security and efficiency by using advanced technology to manage the increasing number of international travelers while maintaining strict border control standards.
Earlier this month, ONDA removed security scanners and metal detectors from the entrance of Mohammed V Airport and the Menara Airport in Marrakech to reduce waiting time.
The measure aims to address the heavy influx of travelers that key Moroccan airports handle, especially in the wake of the rising number of tourists visiting the country. In addition, Morocco is set to host major sporting events, like the 2030 World Cup, which are set to attract an even larger number of visitors.
