Rabat – Muslims in Egypt will officially celebrate Eid Al Fitr 2025 on Monday, March 31, according to the country’s Dar Al Ifta.
Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, and celebrates the breaking of the fast.
Like Muslims across the world, Egyptians celebrate Eid Al Fitr with a mix of religious, social, and cultural traditions.
Egyptians start the day with the special Eid prayer, called Salat al-Eid, held in mosques and large open spaces.
Worshippers in Egypt wear new or their best clothes and exchange greetings like “Eid Mubarak.”
Many donate money and help the needy as part of Zakat al-Fitr, which is a form of charity required before Eid prayers.
After prayer, families enjoy a festive breakfast that often features traditional sweets and other local dishes.
Egyptians visit family members, especially elders, to exchange well wishes and gifts. It’s also common to give Eidiyah, small sums of money, to children.
Lunch and dinner during Eid Al Fitr often include festive dishes like fattah (rice with bread, garlic, and meat), mahshi (stuffed vegetables), and grilled meats.
Many families in Egypt spend the rest of the day at public parks, beaches, or by the Nile to enjoy boat rides, picnics, and entertainment.
