Rabat – Moroccan authorities seized over 25 tons of cannabis resin during a major security operation near Sidi Kacem, in what appears to be a thwarted attempt at international trafficking.
Acting on detailed intelligence from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the Judicial Police Bridage in Sidi Kacem intercepted a freight truck loaded with goods along the national road leading to Fez.
Inside, officers uncovered 628 tightly packed bundles of chira, amounting to more than 25 tons, hidden in the vehicle and reportedly intended for maritime smuggling routes.
Police arrested the truck driver and his assitant, both in their late thirties. According to official sources, the two men have previous run-ins with the law.
Investigators placed the suspects in custody under the direction of the National Judicial Police Brigade, working closely with the competent public prosecutor’s office. The investigation now turns to mapping out the broader web behind the trafficking attempt as authorities look to trace its national and international links and identify others involved in the network.
The operation reflects an ongoing effort by Morocco’s police and territorial intelligence services to curb international drug trafficking.
