Rabat – UM6P Explorer Innovation Program held its third annual Showcase on Thursday at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University’s Campus in Benguerir.
Marking the program’s fifth year of operation, the event was the fruit of a collaboration between UM6P and the MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund, said the university in a press release.
The Showcase featured 44 student teams from UM6P and partner institutions across Morocco, including Cadi Ayyad University, Al Akhawayn University, Hassan II University, Mohammed V University, Technopark, and PASET.
It was an opportunity for student teams to present their projects and engage with key stakeholders from academia, research, and entrepreneurship. “The event is part of UM6P’s broader approach to integrating innovation and entrepreneurship into its educational and research environments, in partnership with national and international institutions,” said the university.
Fifteen teams were selected to publicly present their projects, which covered sectors like digital technologies, energy, and sustainable development. The event aimed to foster dialogue among students, researchers, mentors, and potential investors for the ultimate goal of encouraging the growth of entrepreneurial practice and innovation.
Jinane Abounadi, Executive Director of the MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund, said that over the past five years, the program has supported student-led initiatives across multiple institutions. “This Showcase offered a moment to reflect on the program’s development and to engage with the participating teams,” she added.
Marwan Hassoun, Director of Partnerships at MIT Sandbox, said that UM6P President El Habti’s presence at the Showcase reflects the importance the university places on entrepreneurship as part of its development model.
“His engagement supports a broader effort to connect education, research, and entrepreneurship,” Hassoun added.
The event also provided a platform for networking, with discussions taking place between startups, researchers, and external partners. Attendees also had the opportunity to visit 44 project booths, where student teams from across the partner institutions displayed their ideas and prototypes.
Yassine Laghzaoui, CEO of UM6P Ventures and Director of Entrepreneurship and Venturing at UM6P, spoke about the program’s role in nurturing entrepreneurship.
“Explorer introduces students to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship in a structured and accessible format. The program is one of several initiatives within the UM6P ecosystem that supports innovation and encourages applied learning,” he added.
