Rabat – Moroccan tennis player Lina Bezza has won the Under 16 African Championship (Under 16) in the singles category. The tournament took place in Cairo, Egypt, from April 15 to 19.
Bezza was crowned champion on Saturday after a strong performance in the final match. She defeated Egyptian player Zeina El Gherby in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The young Moroccan star showed great skill and determination throughout the match and was able to secure a well-deserved victory.
The tournament brought together some of the best rising tennis talents from across Africa. It was held over five days in the Egyptian capital and featured many and competitive matches.
In the same category, another Moroccan player, Reda El Aouni, took third place. He won the bronze medal after his opponent, Tunisian player Ahmed Dermoul, was forced to withdraw after the first set of the third-place match. El Aouni had won the first set 6-1.
“Thanks to the results in both singles and doubles, Morocco won the title of African Team Champion in the Under-16 category,” said the Moroccan Royal Federation of Tennis in a statement.
The federation added that thanks to strong results in other age group tournaments, Morocco has been named the Best Country in U16 African tennis for the seventh year in a row.
