Rabat – Local police in Ben Ahmed, a town in the Casablanca-Settat region, have opened a judicial investigation after the discovery of human remains in the restrooms attached to the Grand Mosque in the city.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that the public prosecutor, and the technical police began examining human bone remains and limbs after they found them wrapped in plastic bags in the restrooms attached to the town’s grand mosque.
Police also seized weapons on the site.
Police suspect a person who exhibited signs of “agitated and erratic behavior“ had killed an individual and stored the remains.
He was arrested at the crime scene shortly before the body parts were discovered. He was also wearing blood-stained underwear.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the suspect’s alleged involvement in the killing of the victim.
The human remains found are under necessary genetic testing to determine the identity of the victim.
DNA samples from the crime scene and the suspect’s clothing are also being investigated to uncover all the circumstances of the case.
