Real Sociedad have been dealt a fresh injury setback as Moroccan center-back Nayef Aguerd has been ruled out of tonight’s La Liga game against Celta Vigo due to a knee problem.
The 29-year-old, on loan from West Ham United, pulled up during the warm-up ahead of Saturday’s 4–0 thumping by Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano. He was forced to withdraw from the starting XI at the last minute.

Aguerd sat out training on Sunday alongside fellow absentee Sheraldo Becker, and manager Imanol Alguacil sounded pessimistic about the pair’s involvement: “Nayef and Becker haven’t returned to training. It’s unlikely they’ll be available.”
The defender has featured 36 times across all competitions this season and has been a key part of La Real’s back line.
But since the last international break in March, the Moroccan has played only 117 minutes for Sociedad. However, his availability for the final two fixtures – against Girona and Real Madrid – remains uncertain, pending further medical assessment.
Club spokesperson Jon Ander Monduate confirmed on Monday: “Nayef is still struggling with pain in his knee and won’t be involved tonight. We’ll evaluate his condition in the coming days.”
Sociedad, still chasing a European spot, can ill afford any more slip-ups. Tonight’s tie against an in-form Celta Vigo side – kicking off at 8 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1) – comes with added pressure after the humiliating loss to Atleti, which saw Alexander Sørloth fire in a historic 11-minute hat-trick.
