Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca have reportedly expressed interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo on a short-term deal for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
The report claims Wydad are exploring the possibility of bringing in the Al Nassr forward specifically for the tournament, which is set to take place in the United States from 14 June to 13 July. Ronaldo’s current contract with the Saudi Pro League side is due to expire on 30 June.
Short-term deal suggested
According to Marca, Wydad view the potential signing of Ronaldo as a move that could offer both sporting and commercial benefits, increasing the club’s international visibility during the tournament.
The proposed arrangement, as reported, would apply exclusively to the Club World Cup and not extend into the domestic season.
Ronaldo has been linked with several clubs amid growing uncertainty about his future in Saudi Arabia. Al Nassr remain in contention domestically, but qualification for the Asian Champions League is now unlikely and dependent on other results.
Tough group for Wydad
Wydad will compete in Group G of the newly expanded 32-team Club World Cup format. They have been drawn alongside Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain, making it one of the most competitive groups in the tournament.
FIFA has promoted the 2025 edition as the first to replicate the scale of a traditional World Cup, and the presence of global stars such as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi – set to feature with Inter Miami – would be seen as a major boost for the competition’s global appeal.
Wydad have not commented publicly on the report.
