Morocco head coach Walid Regragui supports Adam Aznou as the young left-back looks to secure a place in Bayern Munich’s squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
The 18-year-old left-back was left out of Morocco’s squad for the June friendlies against Tunisia and Benin, but Regragui confirmed the decision was deliberate and supportive.

“We received calls from several clubs about releasing players, and we insisted on their presence,” said Regragui.
“But in Aznou’s case, I allowed him to stay with Bayern. It’s a major chance for him to earn his place at the Club World Cup. I know his quality – and this serves the national team in the long run.”
Aznou, who made 13 appearances for Real Valladolid during a loan spell last season, has been under close observation by Bayern’s coaching staff, especially with Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito both out injured.
German outlet Sport Bild reports that Aznou is being considered for the left-back role in the tournament, which begins on June 15 in the United States.
Despite Valladolid’s relegation, Aznou impressed during his time in La Liga. The teenager is under contract with Bayern until 2027.
Regragui added that Aznou’s absence from the June camp also allows Morocco to assess new talent in the squad.
“This camp is a chance to look at other players. Aznou needs to push for his future – and that will benefit Morocco when he returns stronger.”
Morocco face Tunisia on 6 June and Benin on 9 June, with both matches set to take place at Stade de Fès, marking the national team’s first return to the venue in 16 years.
