Rabat – Korean company Naver announced today that it is teaming up with Nvidia and Nexus to build an AI data center in Morocco.
Korea JoongAng Daily quoted the company’s statement, noting that the center will have a capacity of 500 megawatts.
Naver said that the company’s goal is to provide sovereign AI computing services across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The project’s first phase will cover a 40 megawatt facility that will be equipped with Nvidia’s GB200. The construction of the facility will take place in the fourth quarter of this year. The company vows that the facility will be completed within the year.
According to the same source, Naver Cloud will manage the operations of the data center, with data storage, processing, and operation performed independently in Morocco “under a sovereign cloud and AI framework.”
Naver’s chief strategy officer stressed that the company’s capabilities and expansion in Saudi Arabia led to this new collaboration.
The company’s goal is to take advantage of Morocco’s proximity to Europe, noting that its goal is to play a “meaningful role in the European market based on our cloud and AI.”
The announcement comes amid major concerns and studies that take issue with data centers and their harmful impact on the environment.
In 2024, Park Place Technologies suggested that data centers carry a “substantial environmental footprint.”
