Rabat – The Moroccan weather authority has issued an orange-level alert warning of hot temperatures and thunderstorms with hail and strong winds in several parts of the country from Wednesday to Thursday.
According to the alert, heavy thunderstorms with hail and wind gusts are expected in several regions until 10 p.m. today. These storms may bring rainfall ranging from 15 to 25 millimeters and will affect the provinces of El Hajeb, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Khenifra, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and Midelt.
At the same time, a heatwave is expected to affect many areas, with temperatures ranging between 39 and 45 degrees Celsius.Â
The regions likely to experience this extreme heat include Ouezzane, Larache, Tangier-Asilah, Moulay Yacoub, El Hajeb, Fez, Taza, Taounate, Meknes, Skhirat-Temara, Sidi Slimane, Kénitra, Rabat, Sale, Sidi Kacem, and Khemisset.
The same weather conditions with also affect Fquih Ben Salah, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Mediouna, Nouaceur, Berrechid, Mohammedia, Benslimane, Casablanca, Settat, Youssoufia, Chichaoua, Marrakesh, Rehamna, Kalaat Sraghna, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Smara, Aousserd, and Oued Eddahab.
This comes after a brief period of relief in recent weeks, when several areas across Morocco saw cooler temperatures and scattered thunderstorms following an earlier heatwave, accompanied with strong winds and thunderstorms.Â
However, the return of intense heat and unstable weather is considered normal for this time of year, especially as the country enters the peak of summer at the end of June and beginning of July.
As temperatures increase, many Moroccans are heading to beaches, rivers, and mountain resorts to cool off. Coastal cities are already seeing more visitors.
