Rabat – Abdellah Mokhchi, the father of 4-year-old Ghita, reassured Moroccans about his daughter’s condition following the tragic beach accident that she suffered on June 15 in Dar Bouazza, an area in the Casablanca-Settat region.

After a surgery, Ghita’s health condition is improving, the father wrote on his Facebook on Sunday, thanking all the people who showed support throughout the case.

A beach day turned into a nightmare on June 15 when a vehicle violently struck Ghita in the head. She was hit by a speeding 4×4 towing a jet ski along the shore.

Converging reports suggested the case was a hit-and-run accident, but the father initially clarified that the suspect was the one who drove him with his daughter to the hospital, as his car was far away and blocked by other vehicles.

In his new post on Facebook, the father said the driver is also being prosecuted while in custody and did not flee the scene on the day of the accident, as claimed by some pages and social media posts.

The case is handled by the judiciary and is following the correct legal course, the father said, apologizing to his friends and the press, contacting Ghita’s family for an interview, noting that he is unable to do any interviews for now.

“My daughter has been discharged and is with me now. We couldn’t take the pressure at the clinic anymore… We’re taking care of her at home now, especially since her mental state has really deteriorated as she keeps asking ‘Why do I look like this?”

The father also warned citizens that neither he nor his wife asked for financial help.

“As for the people who created pages under Ghita’s name and are asking for financial help- be careful!!! Neither my wife nor I has a TikTok account. Our Instagram accounts are private. And we have not asked for any kind of financial assistance,” the father concluded.

The case of Ghita swept social media across Morocco, especially after the father appeared in an interview last week, demanding justice following the accident.

Moroccans launched a social media campaign under the hashtag Justice for Ghita following the father’s interview, during which he said members of the suspect’s said they have money and there is nothing that could be done against the driver.

This came after the suspect’s family members visited the clinic to check on Ghita.

“One of my relatives: ‘The guy who committed this crime should be punished.’”

In response, one of his family members allegedly stated outright that nothing could be done “because they have money.”

“It means that our daughter’s life does not matter to them.  They believe they can prove their son’s innocence with money. I haven’t gone to my house for a week.. I cannot go home,” the father added, in tears.

He also said in his previous interview that the suspect’s legal team has allegedly attempted to blame the father, accusing him of not watching his daughter closely enough.
