Chelsea football club have returned from New York with around $114.3 million in prize money after winning the FIFA Club World Cup, defeating PSG 3-0 in the final game.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup marked a significant departure from previous editions, which had only seven teams.
This year’s edition has featured a World Cup structure which adopted 32 clubs from the six confederations, divided into four weeks held across the US.
Chelsea, one of Europe’s 12 representatives, delivered a dominant performance in the final. Cole Palmer scored twice and assisted on the third. João Pedro to seal the title.
Coming into the finals, the Blues had already earned $76 million through their wins in the competition. Their earnings now reach $114.3 million.
FIFA has confirmed a $1 billion prize pool for the new 32-team Club World Cup, alongside a substantial and groundbreaking global solidarity model.
According to BBC.com, money awarded for participation for European clubs was weighted by a ranking based on sporting and commercial criteria, meaning some were awarded more than others for taking part.
European clubs were handed between $12.81m and $38.19m just for turning up, while teams from other continents were given a set fee – that was $15.21m for South America, $9.55m for North and Central America, and Asia and Africa, and $3.58m for Oceania.
Despite the monetisation situation for the club, Chelsea had made 16% of its annual revenue, second only to Auckland City, whose income jumped by 676% after their participation.
