French side AJ Auxerre have officially signed Moroccan midfielder Oussama El Azzouzi on a season-long loan from Serie A outfit Bologna, the Ligue 1 club announced on Thursday.
The 24-year-old will wear the number 17 shirt and is expected to bolster Christophe Pélissier’s midfield, a key area in the manager’s tactical setup.

“El Azzouzi brings experience and tenacity,” the club said in a statement. “The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is on loan from Bologna (Italy) and will wear number 17.”
Born in the Netherlands, El Azzouzi came through the youth systems of several Dutch clubs, including FC Groningen and FC Emmen, where he made his professional debut. He then moved to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in 2022, making 34 appearances—seven of them in the Europa League – as the club enjoyed a strong domestic and European run.
In the summer of 2023, El Azzouzi joined Bologna. Despite being hampered by injury, he managed to score two goals and register two assists in his debut Serie A campaign.
A rising figure in North African football, El Azzouzi earned his first call-up to Morocco’s senior national team in 2022. He later helped the U23 squad clinch the Africa Cup of Nations and featured at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Auxerre hailed his arrival as a coup, noting that his “vision and ball-winning ability” would add tactical discipline to the squad.
