Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has refused to approve the release of his injury report to La Liga’s medical committee — the body responsible for assessing injury severity and enabling the club to recover 80% of his salary under Financial Fair Play regulations.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the goalkeeper has refused to sign the consent allowing his medical report to be sent to LaLiga’s Medical Commission, which would enable the club to use part of his salary for financial fair play purposes.
This comes at a sensitive time, especially with the club eyeing the signing of former Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García. Barcelona have previously used this route, as they did following serious injuries to Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araújo, which allowed them to bring in Iñigo Martínez and Dani Olmo.

Ter Stegen, who recently underwent a second back surgery on the same area operated on in 2023, personally announced on social media that he expected to be out for three months. Barça, however, estimates a longer timeline: four months of recovery plus one for reintegration, which would meet the criteria to free up part of his salary. Without his consent, nothing can proceed.
The club had requested a meeting with the German goalkeeper after the pre-season tour, but he stood firmly on his word: he is not signing that paper.
As a result, the club is now preparing to initiate disciplinary proceedings. If tensions escalate, the matter could even advance to legal action.
While the club acknowledges Ter Stegen’s right to refuse, they stress that his contract includes obligations. Failing to meet them, they argue, could have repercussions for both player and club.
