Casablanca – Morocco continued to make its presence felt at the 2026 Mediterranean Games on Wednesday, with the national delegation adding three boxing bronze medals while three other Moroccan boxers secured places in their respective finals.
The day also brought success beyond the boxing ring, with Morocco’s U20 football team reaching the semifinals and shooter Yasmine Mrighi advancing to the final of the women’s trap event.
In boxing, Yasmine Moutaki secured bronze in the women’s under-51kg category after losing her semifinal bout to Spain’s Laura Fuertes Fernandez.
Mounia Toutire also finished with a bronze medal in the women’s under-65kg division following her semifinal defeat to Turkiye’s Sima Caliskan.
Morocco’s third boxing bronze came through Abdelhak Nader, who lost to Italy’s Gabriele Guidi Rontani in the men’s under-70kg semifinal.
Morocco will nevertheless have three representatives competing for gold.
Widad Bertal reached the women’s under-54kg final after defeating France’s Wassila Lkhadiri and will face Italy’s Sirine Charaabi.
Saida Lhamidi also booked her place in a final in the women’s under-70kg category after overcoming Turkiye’s Dilara Sak.
In the men’s under-65kg division, Slimane Samgouli advanced to the final after beating Serbia’s Dmitri Artemovich Gorbenko. He will meet Algeria’s Ismail Bakhess in the title bout.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s U20 football team secured its place in the semifinals with an emphatic 5-1 victory over North Macedonia in its final Group A match.
In shooting, Yasmine Mrighi also advanced to the women’s trap final after finishing seventh in the qualification round.
With medals already secured and several athletes still competing for gold, Morocco’s campaign in Taranto continues to gather momentum as the delegation targets further success in the closing stages of the Games.
