Marrakech – Royal Jordanian Airlines will begin operating regular direct flights between Amman and Casablanca starting mid-October, announced Jordanian Ambassador to Morocco Jumana Ghunaimat.

The new air route aims to strengthen cooperation between the two kingdoms while supporting travel, tourism, and trade exchange. It will also reinforce cultural and economic ties between Jordan and Morocco.

“This direct flight represents a major step in consolidating bilateral relations,” Ghunaimat stated in a press declaration. The ambassador noted that the route will reduce travel time to approximately five hours, facilitating movement for travelers and businesspeople between both countries.

Royal Jordanian, established in 1963 as Jordan’s national carrier, currently operates a fleet of 26 aircraft serving 45 destinations worldwide from its hub at Queen Alia International Airport.

The airline is a member of the oneworld alliance, which connects passengers to a network of 1,100 airports across more than 180 territories through 12 air partnerships.

The Amman-Casablanca connection is considered a strategic move that will serve as an “air bridge” linking the Arab East and West. It will promote mutual openness between the two peoples, according to the ambassador.

Ghunaimat described this development as a “qualitative addition” that reflects the depth of historical relations between Jordan and Morocco. She affirmed it demonstrates their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields, including investment, tourism, culture, and education.

This announcement follows earlier developments from late February, when the ambassador stated that the Jordanian government had submitted an official request to exempt Moroccan citizens from visa requirements.

That request came as part of preparations for launching the direct air route, which was initially expected to be established within two months of the February announcement.

The visa exemption initiative was designed to facilitate travel movement and strengthen bilateral relations between the countries, potentially boosting tourism and commercial exchange once the direct flights begin operating.
