Rabat — Ifrane’s Ras al-Maa summer camp was recently the scene of a potential child abuse scandal.
During the fourth phase of Morocco’s National Camping Program, Authorities arrested two camp supervisors yesterday following allegations that one sexually abused a child.
Local reports indicated that Royal Gendarmerie officers detained both men for questioning under orders from the public prosecutor’s office.
The incident occurred at the “Sais Space” section of the summer camp.
The unfolding of the case started when officials discovered inappropriate behavior by a 28-year-old supervisor toward a 13-year-old child at the facility.
According to initial reports, the head of Sais Space reportedly noticed unusual behavior early in the morning, while conducting rounds with other educational staff.
The supervisor, who came from a Casablanca-based association, was reportedly acting inappropriately with the child in the sleeping quarters.
The space coordinator immediately notified the camp director, who then interviewed the child involved in the incident.
The child reportedly told the director and staff that the suspect had touched and kissed his neck while he pretended to be sleeping.
The child also reported that the same supervisor had done similar actions on the second day of this camping phase.
According to reports, Royal Gendarmerie arrested both the main suspect and another staff member accused of covering up the incident.
Authorities have provided psychological support for the victim, as the investigation is still underway under prosecution office supervision.
The incident has raised serious concerns about child safety protocols at Morocco’s national summer camps, which serve thousands of young participants across the country during holiday periods.
This incident comes in the wake of a similarly shocking case involving the gang-rape case of a child by 14 men in the Moulay Abdellah Moussem in El Jadida.
