Morocco Arrests Turkish Citizen Wanted by Germany at Casablanca Airport

Rabat – Moroccan police at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca arrested a 43-year-old Turkish man on Friday, who was wanted internationally by German authorities.

According to a security source, the man was stopped shortly after arriving on a flight from Turkiye. A check of his identity in the Interpol database showed that he was the subject of a Red Notice issued by Germany. He is suspected of being involved in trafficking cocaine.

Red Notices are often used in serious cases, such as drug trafficking, terrorism, or organized crime. It is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and temporarily detain a person wanted by another country until extradition procedures can take place. 

The suspect has been placed under extradition procedures before being referred to the public prosecutor. Meanwhile, Morocco has informed German authorities of the arrest.

The source added that this operation reflects Morocco’s strong commitment to international security cooperation, especially in pursuing individuals wanted in cases of transnational crime.

Morocco has long been an active partner in global police cooperation through Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organization. Interpol connects police forces from 196 member countries and allows them to share information and coordinate in tracking criminals across borders.

Last week, police in Tangier arrested a 26-year-old Danish citizen of Palestinian origin wanted internationally by Danish authorities for a case of intentional murder using a firearm.

The man, who is a suspect in a murder committed in July in Tingberg, was stopped in Tangier after a police check revealed he was also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice.
