Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has named his squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Niger and Zambia, with several familiar faces returning.
The list includes Mohamed Chibi of Pyramids, Utrecht left-back Soffian El Karouani, Bournemouth’s Amine Adli, Villarreal’s Ilias Akhomach and Sunderland winger Chemseddine Talbi. Regragui has also handed a first call-up to midfielder Neil Al Aynaoui.
Speaking at a press conference, the coach said: “The Moroccan national team is looking for victory and balance. Every time, you cannot go from being a team with 25 players to being a team with none of them.”
He added: “We must keep the key players. For example, Ounahi is facing strong competition. Nael gives us many options in midfield, and we will see the best position for him to make a difference.”
On home-based Botola Pro talents, he noted: “As for those who shone in CHAN, there are players who excelled with me at FUS Rabat, such as Harimat, Bach and El Ouidani, and also Boulaqsout when he was at Mohammedia, as well as Mehri and Melloui in Berkane. The door is open for everyone.”
Morocco host Niger on September 5 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium before travelling to Lusaka to face Zambia on September 8. The Atlas Lions need just one point from the two matches to book their place at the 2026 World Cup.
