Rabat– Morocco’s mobile phone market continued its steady expansion in the first half of 2025, with the number of subscribers climbing to 58.8 million by the end of June, according to new figures from the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
The latest data show a 3.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the market had recorded a sharper rise of 5.2%.
The country’s mobile penetration rate also reached a new milestone, hitting 159.5% at the end of June 2025, up from 152.4% a year earlier and 127.1% in mid-2019.
This growth showcases Morocco’s continued reliance on mobile connectivity, which now exceeds the size of the population by a significant margin, reflecting the widespread use of multiple SIM cards and devices among users.
The internet sector also posted solid gains. Internet subscriptions reached 41.2 million by the end of June 2025, marking a 5.2% year-on-year increase, following a 6.9% rise recorded in the same period of 2024.
Additionally, the internet penetration rate grew to 111.8%, compared to 104.8% in June 2024 and 66.2% in June 2019, demonstrating the country’s accelerated digital adoption over the past five years.
According to Kantar’s latest Africascope Maghreb 2024 report, Moroccans spend nearly six hours a day—an average of 5 hours and 46 minutes—engaging with media.
The study highlights a dynamic pattern of media consumption across television, radio, and online platforms, particularly in Morocco’s major urban centers.
Conducted across 12 key metropolitan areas in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, the report also shows a remarkable rise in internet usage. In Morocco, daily internet access among city residents has jumped to 91%, up from 76% in 2023, reflecting the country’s accelerating digital adoption.
